10 events in Idoma land you must not miss this December

As preparations hot up ahead of this year’s Christmas and New Year celebrations, IDOMA VOICE highlights 10 top events happening in Idoma land this season.

ECHIJA

The second edition of Ech’ija, an annual event that showcases the cultural heritage of the Otukpo people, nay, Idoma community will again, take the centre stage this year.

This event allows all the streets and residents of Otukpo showcase their cultures and talents.

From Igbanonmaje to Ojira, Ibadan to Otukpo Icho, Eiupi down to Ajene Streets, the event will surely set the Texas City on fire this year.

Already, the team lead, Amedu Iklaga has been changing the face of Otukpo with his arts and designs. 28 December is the date.

MISS IDOMA

The 11th edition of Miss Idoma Beauty Pageant is another event fun seekers cannot afford to miss this December.

The annual event, powered by Jane Odoh of Free Image Entertainement is a parade of beauty and brain in Idoma land.

This year, December 27, the event will hold at Leach Hotel.

EDUMOGA CARNIVAL

This year, the people of Edumoga in Okpokwu LGA decided to come together for the first-of-its kind entertainment fiesta tagged Edumoga Carnival.

The event, which has been endorsed by one of its illustrious sons and music star, Tuface Idibia, will take place in Ugbokolo this December.

OGBADIBO CARNIVAL

The fourth edition of Ogbadibo Cultural Carnival is another event that will light up Idoma community this December.

Powered by Johnson Agada (Ach’Oklobia)-led Manex Production, the carnival is expected to produce the Face of Ogbadibo and other talents.

The event will take place in Otukpa.

OWUKPA UNITY CUP

Powered by Ameh Comrade Godwin-led Idoma Voice Newspapers, The Owukpa Unity Cup is held annually in honour of Prince Ameh Jerry, pioneer editor of Idoma Voice, who died February 6, 2015.

This year’s event will hold at Udaburu Owukpa on December 19.

ENONE SOCCER TOURNAMENT

This is another fiesta that one cannot afford to miss.

The football tournament is aimed at bringing together youths from across Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo federal constituency, otherwise known as Enone.

EST is single-handedly sponsored by Chief Philip Agbese (Okanga Agila).

IDOMA CARNIVAL

Due to the government and health experts directives on coronavirus safety protocols on social distancing, ban on large gatherings, the 2020 edition of Idoma International Carnival will not be at full scale, organizers of the biggest street party in north of the Niger have said.

Idoma International Carnival is an annual event held in Otukpo in Benue State, Nigeria, with the aim of showcasing to the world the rich social, cultural and Economic endowment of the Idoma nation through art, craft and social exhibitions. One of the core objectives of the carnival is to give back to society

However, the negative impact of COVID-19 has made life extremely difficult for people all over the world and the Idoma nation is not an exception.

To  cushion the effect of the lockdown and to identify with our people, the Idoma International Carnival 2020 will hold a special programme tagged ‘OHIGBU ACHOLALO’ (for the sake of our people) to share palliatives to the most vulnerable and the poorest of the poor in Idoma Land.

The President of the carnival,  Prince Edwin Ochai, noted that the decision to tune down this year’s Carnival was a painful one which was done after due consultation with various stakeholders of the annual event.

OCHACHO FEST

The biggest event in Idoma land this year is the much-awaited Ochacho Fest.

Already, a-list musician, David Adeleke AKA Davido has reaffirmed coming to Otukpo for Ochacho Festival 2020.

The event which is tagged “The unforgettable Experience” will be held at no 7 Ochacho Avenue Otukpo, Benue State on Christmas Day, 25th December.

The event is powered by Mohammed Adah, CEO of Ochacho Real Homes and Ochacho Foundation.

OTUKPO’S GOT TALENT

Arts and Culture continues to play a very important role in many aspects of our lives. Chief Lady Onuh’s has continually supported and embarked on projects to promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Idoma youths through the annual Otukpo’s Got Talent.

The event will hold this year at Eyum Memorial Centre, Otukpo.

JERICHO STREET CARNIVAL UGBOKOLO

The event will take place at Jericho Street on December 26, Ugbokolo and it’s expected to produce Mr. and Miss Jericho.
