11 killed, scores injured as herdsmen attack another Benue community

Report reaching IDOMA VOICE says some suspected militia herdsmen in the early hours of Monday attacked Tse Amgbem community in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue.

It was gathered that no fewer than eleven (11) persons were killed during the attack with several others injured.

The attack also displayed hundreds of residents who are now taking refugee in Aoondoana close to Naka, the local government headquarters.

According to multiple sources, the heavily armed herdsmen stormed the community in their numbers and started causing mayhem.

It was no clear whether there was any altercation between the Fulani herdsmen and the community prior to the attack.

This is coming barely two weeks after about seven persons were killed at an IDPs camp in Makurdi, the state capital.

The state governor, Samuel Ortom, had said then that more than 70 people have been killed by militia herdsmen in Makurdi alone within the weeks.

Since then, more than five cases of herdsmen attacks on Benue communities have been reported, with the Monday attack on Tse Amgbem, being the latest of the bloodletting that have been ravaging Benue and its environs by suspected Fulani herdsmen militias.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the Benue State Police Command was yet to comment on the incident.
