12 lives lost in Nasarawa due to boat mishap

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly revealed that a devastating boat accident along the Kogi River, specifically at Kungra Kamfani in the Arikiya electoral ward of Lafia Local Government Area, resulted in the unfortunate loss of 12 lives on August 20th.

During an emergency session convened in Lafia, Speaker Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi conveyed his condolences on behalf of the Assembly. He expressed profound sadness as he shared the distressing news of the mishap.

The Speaker extended his heartfelt sympathies to both the State and the Lafia Local Government, acknowledging the immense sorrow that the incident has caused. In addition, he directly reached out to the grieving families, offering his condolences and support during this painful time.

“Regrettably, we find ourselves in a situation where 12 individuals, comprising men and women, lost their lives in a tragic boat accident at Arikiya, Lafia LGA. Among the 19 individuals on board, 12 tragically passed away, while seven were fortunately rescued. The entire Lafia LGA and our beloved State are grappling with the weight of this sorrowful event,” Alhaji Abdullahi lamented.

Despite the House’s recognition of the heartbreaking incident, it urged the affected families, the people of Lafia LGA, and the State government to find the strength to bear this irreparable loss. Alhaji Abdullahi, accompanied by the honorable members and staff, extended their collective condolences and thoughts to the bereaved families, Lafia LGA, and the State government. The Speaker earnestly prayed for the departed souls to find eternal rest, beseeching divine forgiveness for any shortcomings they might have had.

As a mark of respect and in memory of the departed souls, a minute of silence was observed by the lawmakers during the session.
