14 LASTMA officers to face disciplinary panel over extortion allegations

Fourteen Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials are set to appear before a disciplinary panel to address allegations of extortion and high-handed conduct, following the state’s established rules and regulations.

According to reliable sources, these officials, comprising eleven senior and three junior personnel, were reportedly apprehended in various locations across the state while allegedly soliciting money from motorists.

Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, confirmed the situation.

He mentioned that the cases of the implicated officers had been thoroughly investigated and would be presented before the “Government Disciplinary Committee, known as the Personnel Management Board (PMB) Discipline,” where their cases would be evaluated in accordance with the Public Service Rules.

Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, emphasized the agency’s commitment to imposing severe penalties on any officers engaging in misconduct and damaging the organization’s reputation.

He called upon the public, particularly motorists, to report any errant officers promptly, providing evidence, through LASTMA offices or the agency’s complaint hotlines.

Oreagba also advised all LASTMA officials to carry out their duties impartially, following the established laws governing the authority, warning that any official found “bringing the agency or the Government into disrepute” would face the consequences.
