No fewer than 17 persons have been killed as gunmen attacked Heipang Community in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
This heart-wrenching assault occurred a mere three days subsequent to the slaying of a commuter en route from the Kara cattle market in Bukuru. The slain individual’s tragic end had transpired in the Heipang area, amplifying the sense of insecurity in the region.
The Berom Youth Moulders association (BYM) has openly decried the reprehensible act that claimed the commuter’s life. The BYM attributed the attack to the sinister agenda of those seeking to disrupt the prevailing peace.
Confirmation of the grim incident was provided by Captain Ola James, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH). The multi-security task force, charged with maintaining tranquility in the state, had promptly deployed forces to the embattled community.
Captain James detailed the events leading up to the harrowing assault, saying, “Advance intelligence indicated the potential for bandit attacks in the vicinity. Consequently, our operation established checkpoints in the area as a precautionary measure. However, the attackers cunningly pursued an alternate route, executing their attack on the community. A tragic toll of 17 lives lost was confirmed, and the commander of OPSH was present during the attack.”
Investigators are currently scrutinizing the incident as a possible reprisal assault stemming from the preceding Monday’s incident. In response to this shocking event, the OPSH has mobilized personnel to restore law and order in the affected region.
Amidst the somber aftermath, Mr. John Mark Pam, the state youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the northern zone, tragically confirmed the death of his own brother in this senseless act of violence.
