18 months after his death, Mohbad’s body still in morgue – Widow cries out

Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has expressed deep frustration over her husband’s body still being held in the morgue 18 months after his tragic death.

Mohbad, who passed away on September 12, 2023, was buried the following day, but his body was exhumed for an autopsy on September 21, 2023, due to the controversy surrounding his passing.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on March 12, 2025, Omowunmi revealed that her husband’s death has been turned into a business, with certain individuals profiting from it. She accused her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, of withholding Mohbad’s burial for financial gain, rather than out of grief or a desire for justice.

She pleaded with Nigerians to urge her father-in-law to finally bury Mohbad, expressing the pain and hardship she has endured. Omowunmi wrote, “It has been 18 months since my husband left this world—18 months of waking up every day to a reality I never asked for. 18 months of missing him with every breath I take. 18 months of carrying the weight of being both mother and father to our now 23-month-old child.”

She continued, “The heavens know how much I miss him. There are no words to describe the depth of this pain, the emptiness he left behind. To the general public, I am pleading with you, help me ask my father-in-law to bury my husband. There is no justification for why his body is still lying in the morgue after all this time, denied the dignity of a final resting place.”

Omowunmi further claimed, “My father-in-law is not holding on out of love or grief. He is holding on because of the attention and money he continues to receive. He knows that once my husband is finally laid to rest, the public sympathy, the donations, and the sudden fame will disappear. He is dragging this on for his own benefit, not for justice.”

She also accused people on social media of exploiting her husband’s death, stating, “They have turned my husband’s death into a business. They profit from this tragedy. They have built platforms off my pain, made careers out of bullying me and my child. They make money from spreading lies about me, from discrediting me, and some even pay my father-in-law a monthly salary from what they earn online.”

In her emotional plea, Omowunmi concluded, “Please, I am begging you. Hear my cry. Help me. Let my husband rest. Let my child have peace. Let me grieve without this never-ending battle hanging over me. Please.”
