No fewer than 19 members of the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) have been killed on Tuesday October 11th, in Gamboru Ngala in Borno State.
It was gathered that the neutralization of the terrorists occurred when troops of Operation Hadin Kai backed by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) engaged the insurgents in a gun duel after the security operatives were ambushed.
The terrorists were said to have come out in large numbers on motorcycles and Hilux trucks mounted with guns, shooting sporadically at the troops. However, the troops were right on hand to counter the audacious ambush which triggered a heavy gun battle that lasted for about 40 minutes.
The troops subsequently overwhelmed the terrorists and inflicted serious damage on them, forcing them to flee.
“The troops neutralized 19 of them in the process,” a security source said.
“No fatalities were recorded on the side of troops; only two persons were injured,” he said.
This newspaper learned that the troops captured one of the insurgents’ gun trucks and recovered nine motorcycles, as well as multiple weapons including nine AK-47 rifles and many rounds of ammunitions.
