A tragic incident unfolded in the Heipang District of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, as assailants unleashed violence on the community, resulting in the loss of 20 lives and leaving over 10 others injured.
Reports from Idoma Voice reveal that the attackers descended upon the community during the early hours of Thursday, catching the residents off-guard as they slept.
Despite the valiant efforts of local vigilantes, the attackers proved overwhelming, wielding superior firepower that rendered the vigilantes’ traditional Dane guns inadequate for defense.
Residents recount a fierce clash between the vigilantes and the assailants, leading to the unfortunate demise of four vigilantes. Tragically, some houses were set ablaze during the attack, trapping and fatally burning sleeping residents who were unable to escape the sudden onslaught.
John Mark Pam, a grieving community member, shared a heart-wrenching account of losing five family members, including his brother, wife, and three children. He recounted the horrifying details of the attackers invading their compound, setting their home ablaze, and ruthlessly ending the lives of his loved ones in their sleep.
Confirming the distressing incident, the Plateau State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, affirmed that security reinforcements have been dispatched to the community. Law enforcement personnel are actively pursuing the attackers, striving to restore peace and bring those responsible to justice.
