The Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Dr. Emmanuel Shior has disbursed the donated Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000) cash to flood victims across communities in Makurdi Local Government Area today, 28th October, 2022.
According to the SEMA Boss, the N50,000 for each household of the affected victims was a donation received from the wife of the President of Nigeria, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari through Senator Mrs. Oluremi Shade Tinubu, wife of the APC Presidential Candidate for 2023 general elections to cushion the sufferings of the victims.
He stated, that as a responsible and responsive government, the Governor directed for the immediate disbursement of the N10,000,000 to 200 flood victims.
He however noted that more than 134,000 households were profiled but the ten million naira was only meant to be benefited by 200 households as directed by the donor.
Dr. Shior urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money, while he assured other victims who were not part of the ten million that SEMA has taken record of those who have benefitted and will ensure that others are captured in another face of intervention.
He appreciated Mrs. Aisha Buhari for the gesture and asked other well to do individuals to emulate her.
He pointed out that Benue State Government still battle with the challenge of catering for over two million IDPs and over ten thousand Cameroonian refugees.
In her remarks, Chairman, Makurdi Local Government Council, Mrs. Eunice Torbunde represented by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Frank Mbashinya, appreciated Mrs. Buhari for coming to the aid of the victims, saying the token will go along way in cushioning the sufferings of the beneficiaries.
Among the beneficiaries, Jibril Muhammad and Zaki Vincent Tseson thanked Mrs. Buhari for coming to their aid, while they appreciated Benue SEMA for a transparent disbursement of the N10,000,000 donation, promised to use it judiciously.
