2019: Mass exodus looms as PDP holds emergency NEC meeting today

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will today July 23rd, 2018 hold an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to concretise the terms surrounding the anticipated defections into the their fold this week.

It was gathered that the meeting was preceded by a caucus meeting last night to discuss issues bothering on the terms by both the defectors and the party.
A source disclosed that the Governor Liyel Imoke interface and reconciliation committee will be the platform upon which the meetings will be held adding that some of the issues to discuss include assurances on membership waivers, automatic tickets, and the possibility of a change of name for the party.

The PDP was reportedly propelled to convene the crucial meetings in the face of recent efforts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to appease and cajole its aggrieved members not to leave the party.

The APC national leadership has been paying individual visits to the homes of rAPC members, who are mainly in the National Assembly, as part of measures to ensure they don’t leave the party.

The party is said not to be ready to take chances, adding that it is ready to concertise the concessions based on the templates laid out in the Liyel Imoke Committee report which include certain concessions, like automatic ticket and waivers for the new comers.

“next week will be very crucial to the life of both the PDP and APC ahead of 2019. Whichever one survives or goes will be the outcome of meetings between now and tomorrow night. ByTuesday and Wednesday things will happen at a very frenetic pace.”

“the APC has been moving from house or house to cajoling federal lawmakers to stay behind and not leave but they have long made up their minds to leave.” the source added.
