2019: While a candidate won, our nation lost (Opinion)

The greatest asset of any nation is not the material resources that lies underneath her grounds but the patriotism that lies in the heart of her people.

The love for nation defines the passion for her welfare. That love is powered primarily by the nobility of her leaders. It is therefore important for the people to respect the elected leaders of the nation.

It is therefore in appreciation of this that we sadly observe the unfortunate brutalization of our fragile democracy by the desperate antics of evil politicians during the last presidential election. We saw murderous election violence leading to the the death of dozens of Nigerians.

We saw ballot box snatching and getaspo like use of lethal violence to disenfranchise millions of Nigerians. We saw result falsification and branzen distortion of election figures across the country. We saw an ochestrated and vicious attack on our democracy.

We note that the excercise has taken our nation back to the dark decades of despotic rule and eroded the confidence our people have in the electoral process.

We are therefore convinced that the product of this excercise does not reflect the democratic will of our people.

We call upon INEC to cancel the election and commence the process of conducting a transparent election.

We call upon all lovers of democracy in our nation to be united in their condemnation of this atrocious rape of our democracy.

We call on the International community to disassociate themselves and their states from the travesty of justice that took place on February 23 2019.

We maintain that while a candidate was declared a winner, our nation collectively lost.
