2023: My basic monthly salary’ll be used to pay tuition for indigent students across Ogbadibo – Assembly aspirant, Oche

An aspirant for Benue State House of Assembly, Ogbadibo Constituency in the forthcoming general election, Comrade Ochigbo Oche Daniel has vowed to use his basic monthly salaries as State Assembly member to assist in offsetting school fees of indigent primary and secondary school students in his Ogbadibo Constituency if he wins in 2023.

Comrade Oche, a Lagos based contractor and businessman, stated this Monday afternoon in an interview with Sky News Nigeria’s correspondent, Mr John Agaba.

Oche said the era of waiting for constituency project funds to be released before an Assembly member renders assistance to his constituency should have been over since 1999 when Nigeria entered its fourth republic.

“I am a businessman who is making money outside the corridors of government. I am trying my best to ensure that indigent people, especially children and women, are assisted in academics and their business aspirations. I do this from the little that I make. If given the opportunity, my basic monthly salary would be used to offset tuition for performing students who are financially handicapped.”

“The era of waiting for constituency project funds to be released before an Assembly member assists the underprivileged ones in his constituency should have been over since the beginning of the fourth republic. Unfortunately, our representatives made it look like they cannot assist anyone or assist the society with any social amenities except that a special fund is released by the government. I cannot understand this. They need to use their personal resources for the good of their people,” -Oche said

Comrade Oche further stated that elective offices are not meant for job seekers but for those who have been tried and trusted in their private lives, adding that those who can use their personal resources to better the lot of their people are the best to be considered for elective positions as such opportunity would spur them to do more.

The University of Lagos graduate maintained that his tenure would focus on education, security, agriculture and the economic prosperity of his constituents.
