Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has decried the speculation accusing the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, of having a zoning arrangement for the presidential election coming up in 2023.
Several calls have been made to the All Progressive Congress to give the 2023 presidential ticket to the country’s Southern region.
Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has told the party to zone the 2023 presidential ticked to a southerner.
Ganduje joined his college, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and other topnotch nothern politicians who had made same call to the party leaders.
However, while speaking to reporterters in Abuja over the weekend, Yahaya Bello said there’s no zoning arrangement for the 2023 presidential ticket in the party, adding that anyone from any zone can contest.
He said: “There is nothing like zoning in our party. In 2015, there was no zoning; many aspirants, including former governor Rochas Okorocha contested.
“In 2019, there was no zoning; people in APC were not courageous enough to contest with President Muhammadu Buhari.”
When queried if he’s contesting in the 2023 presidency, he said: “If it’s the will of God for me to become president in this country at the right time, I will be.”
Bello further reveals that he would defeat anyone he contest againt in the 2023 presidential elections with record breaking votes.
“I will record a vote that has never been recorded in Nigeria by the grace of God. But that’s not the issue right now; the issue is there must be Nigeria before we talk of 2023,” the governor added.
