As activities leading to next year’s general election intensify, Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Terver Akase says the governorship flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rt Hon Titus Uba is the preferred choice of the people because of his vast experience, capacity and preparedness for the job.
Mr. Akase who was speaking as a guest on Harvest FM Makurdi’s current affairs programme ‘Good Morning Benue’, noted that the people deserve a Governor who would not waste two years or more learning on the job, expressing confidence that Uba will hit the ground running immediately as he assumes office.
“Benue State Government House is not a laboratory where the occupant is expected to carry out experiments on governance. It is a place for tested and trusted leaders who come prepared to serve the people, instead of asking for the meaning of something as simple as a memo”, Akase stated.
The Special Adviser pointed out that Rt Hon Titus Uba who is also the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly has led the most peaceful legislature since the creation of the state.
“He has been the speaker of the state assembly since 2018 and the house has not experienced any crisis under his leadership. That tells you that Uba has the capacity to lead people creditably”.
Mr Akase also noted that the State Assembly under Engr Uba’s leadership has made many people oriented laws for the development of the state and will do even better when he becomes governor.
“A lot of wonderful laws have been made under his tenure like the domestication of the PENCOM law to end the lingering issues of pensions as well as the law on primary health, amongst several others”.
Reacting to the recently commissioned road and electricity projects in the state, Mr Akase said it was in fulfillment of Governor Samuel Ortom’s promises to the people and the Governor’s determination to leave a lasting legacy in the state despite the challenges confronting his administration.
On the backlog of arrears of salaries and pension owed Benue workers and civil servants, Mr Akase said the Governor Ortom had made efforts to secure a bond to clear the arrears but the APC-led Federal Government blocked the move. He however gave assurance that the State Government has not gone to sleep over the matter.
On the crisis rocking the PDP at the national level, Mr Akase said his principal, Governor Ortom and his counterparts from the four other states of Abia, Enugu, Oyo and Rivers have no personal interest nor problems with anyone but would continue to seek for fairness, equity and justice for all members of the party.
The former governorship aspirant on the platform of the PDP also called on President Mohammadu Buhari to back his orders with the desired political will to enable the military and other security formations tame the unprovoked killings and displacement of Benue people and other parts of the country.
“Nigeria’s military is one of the best in the world. Our military has won many battles in the country and outside the country. What they need is the right political will and support from the Federal Government.
