2023 Women’s World Cup: Spain, Japan qualify for round of 16

Spain and Japan have secured their places in the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

In their second Group C fixture on Wednesday, Spain displayed a dominant performance, defeating Zambia 5-0 to secure their qualification. Teresa Abelleira opened the scoring, while Jennifer Hermoso and Alba Redondo each netted twice, sealing Spain’s second victory in the tournament.

Earlier on the same day, Japan secured their spot in the knockout rounds with a 2-0 victory over Costa Rica.

Both Spain and Japan now have six points in Group C and will compete against each other on Monday to determine the group’s top spot.
