Following the Super Falcons’ exhilarating 3-2 triumph against Australia in Group B of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, concerns arose over potential injuries sustained by some players. However, the team’s media officer, Oluchi Tobechukwu, has reassured Nigerians that there are no serious injury worries.
In the thrilling encounter, which saw Nigeria claim an unexpected victory and secure the top spot in their group, some of the Falcons players suffered knocks. Osinachi Ohale, who was named the Player of the Match, took a hit to the stomach after putting Nigeria ahead 2-1, while Halimotu Ayinde twisted her ankle. Additionally, right-back Michelle Alozie received a knock during the hard-fought fixture.
But speaking on the Sports Breakfast Show on Brila FM, Tobechukwu provided an update on the players’ conditions, stating, “They are good, a lot of knocks during the match, even prior to that, we’ve had Desire Oparanozie on the bench recovering from knocks, almost fully fit. I saw Ohale last night before going to bed; she was walking fine, so they should be good before our next game.”
Tobechukwu expressed gratitude to Nigerians both at home and in Australia for their unwavering support, which has served as motivation for the Falcons to achieve the unexpected.
