2027: Benue govt moves against plots to deny Alia’s second term

The Benue State Government has raised concerns over alleged plots by certain political pressure groups and civil societies to create political instability in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Friday by Solomon Semaka, the Principal Special Assistant to the Governor on National Programs, Civil Society, Mass Voter Education, and Strategic Interventions, the government disclosed that it had received numerous petitions from well-meaning stakeholders in the state. These petitions highlighted the activities of “amorphous political pressure groups” allegedly aimed at causing chaos for personal gain.
“The Benue State Government has received multiple petitions from stakeholders calling for a thorough investigation into the proliferation of emergency shadow political pressure groups across the state. Their sole motive is to destabilise the state ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Semaka stated.
He expressed concern that some of the sponsors of these activities are public servants and elected leaders, who should be prioritizing the safety and stability of the state over selfish interests.
To address these concerns, the state government has established a Special Monitoring Committee tasked with investigating the activities of these groups and their sponsors. Findings from the investigation will be forwarded to the office of the National Security Adviser for further action.
Semaka assured citizens that the administration is collaborating with relevant security agencies to tackle the issue and prevent any disruptions to the state’s peace and stability.
He also commended stakeholders who have shown patriotic concern over the matter, reaffirming Governor Hyacinth Alia’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare and security of Benue’s residents.
“The administration remains focused on the uninterrupted implementation of Governor Alia’s mandate, which has resonated deeply with the people,” Semaka added.
This development underscores the government’s resolve to maintain peace and stability in Benue State as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin to take shape.
