Okpokwu Ogenyi, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, and former governorship aspirant in Benue State, has expressed confidence that Governor Hyacinth Alia will win re-election in 2027, even if he leaves the APC.

Ogenyi made the remarks while discussing the state government’s record on security, development and party cohesion.

Speaking on Politics Tonight, Ogenyi defended Governor Alia’s handling of insecurity in Benue, describing recent attacks on schools and churches as attempts by insurgents to distract the administration ahead of the elections.

He emphasized that no local government in the state is under insurgent control and praised both federal and state security efforts.

Ogenyi lauded Governor Alia’s developmental achievements, including the mobilization of security operatives, procurement of operational vehicles, and management of flood and erosion-prone areas.

He also pointed to the construction of over 500 kilometers of roads, the establishment of New Makodi City, and the revival of industries such as tomato processing.

On political dynamics, Ogenyi dismissed claims that party disunity or alleged sidelining of the state executive committee would weaken the APC. “Even if the governor leaves the APC and joins another party, he will win the election in 2027. The people of Benue are completely behind him,” he said.

He further stressed that Governor Alia’s administration prioritizes inclusiveness and minority representation, citing appointments from Benue South to key positions across the state government.
