Valentine Ozigbo, a former Anambra State governorship candidate and ally of Peter Obi, has declared that he does not see a future for the Labour Party (LP) and believes Obi will not contest the presidency under its platform in 2027.
Ozigbo, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022 to support Obi’s presidential bid under LP, recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a commitment to a greater vision for the state.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Ozigbo stated:
“I don’t see a future for the Labour Party. I’m happy to live with that assertion, and I would like to be proven wrong.
“Peter Obi, whom we are discussing, previously moved from ANPP to APGA, then PDP, and later Labour Party. If he decides to run again, I can almost guarantee it won’t be under Labour Party.
“I am not his spokesperson, but I have been part of discussions around coalitions, and I remain optimistic about that.”
Ozigbo also revealed that he had informed Obi of his decision to leave LP as a mark of deep respect for his leadership.
