The Amotekun Corps in Ondo State has apprehended at least 21 individuals suspected of criminal activities, including kidnappers.
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of the security outfit, announced the arrests while presenting the suspects in Akure. He highlighted that criminals are constantly evolving their tactics to evade security forces.
“We have detained 21 suspects from various local governments across the state. While we continuously develop new strategies to counter them, criminals also advance their methods. However, with God’s grace and the support of the people of Ondo State in providing reliable information, we are confident we will overcome these challenges,” Adeleye stated.
He cited a recent example of evolving criminal tactics involving kidnappers and thieves targeting motorcycle riders, known locally as Okadas. “Previously, we warned the public about Okadas with riders wearing hoods that cover their faces, as these are often associated with criminal activity, especially at night”.
Adeleye further detailed a recent operation where Amotekun disrupted a syndicate that had developed new techniques for stealing Okadas. “These criminals have resorted to violence, using firearms and heavy objects. Instead of riding the stolen Okadas themselves, they attack riders from the side and strike them on the head,” he added.
He concluded by stating that all 21 suspects have been thoroughly profiled and will face charges in court following a comprehensive investigation.
