A 22-year-old woman, Iyanu Adedeji, has been accused of stabbing her husband, Funsho Jimoh, to death in the Gbonogun area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to a security source, Iyanu and Funsho, who had been married for eight years and had two children, got into a heated argument after Funsho allegedly accused Iyanu of having an extramarital affair. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical altercation, during which Iyanu allegedly stabbed Funsho in the chest with a domestic knife.
The source revealed that after the stabbing, Iyanu rushed Funsho to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, where he was confirmed dead by doctors.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that Iyanu had turned herself in to the Divisional Police Station after the incident.
In her statement to the police, Iyanu claimed that after realizing her husband was bleeding from the chest wound, she attempted to get him medical help but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
“On December 30, 2024, at approximately 12:15 PM, Iyanu Adedeji reported to the police station with her husband’s body in a vehicle. She stated that Funsho, her husband of eight years, accused her of infidelity, which led to a physical altercation,” Odutola explained.
The PPRO added that police operatives visited the scene of the crime and recovered the knife. A preliminary investigation has been launched, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
In light of the incident, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has urged couples to avoid escalating conflicts and to seek peaceful resolutions in their relationships.
