23-year-old man kills mother over food in Akwa Ibom

A 23-year-old man, identified as Akaninyene Sunday Isaac, is alleged to have murdered his 55-year-old mother, Christiana Sunday Isaac, in Akwa Ibom State, reportedly over a food-related dispute. Isaac, a resident of Oruk Uso Otoro village in Abak Local Government Area of the state, is said to have fatally attacked his mother, accusing her of withholding food from him for three days.

Family sources based in Uyo disclosed that Isaac often sought financial assistance from his mother, which she typically provided. However, on the day of the incident, she refused his request due to a lack of funds. This denial reportedly triggered Isaac’s anger, leading him to attack her with a machete. Sadly, she passed away before receiving any medical attention.

According to sources, the woman’s body has been placed in a mortuary. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Odiko Macdon, confirmed the incident and reported that the suspect, who confessed to the crime, was apprehended on October 11, 2023. Charges will be filed once the investigation is completed.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Akaninyene Sunday Isaac, ‘m’ , aged 23, for murdering his biological mother, one Christiana Sunday Isaac ‘f’, 55 years old, both of Oruk Uso Otoro village in Abak Local Government Area.
“Operatives of Abak Division arrested the suspect on the 11th of October.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and alleged that his mother failed to give him food for three days, hence, he used a machete to inflict grievous injuries on her, leading to her death,” he stated.
