Naja’atu Salisu, a female student at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, has been confirmed dead after collapsing in the bathroom.

The 300-level computer science student was found unconscious by her sister in the bathroom on Friday.

“She had completed her usual morning routine and brought out the clothes she intended to wear to class, leaving them beside her bed,” explained one of Naja’atu’s roommates, who wished to remain anonymous.

The university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, said, “Naja’atu had brought out her study materials in the morning and entered the bathroom to shower while her sister waited for her so they could attend class together.”

Her sister discovered her body after noticing her prolonged stay in the bathroom and found her lying unconscious on the floor of the female hostel bathroom at the Gubi campus.

After raising the alarm, she was rushed to the university’s clinic, but medical personnel were unable to find a vein for transfusion. Realizing the severity of the situation, they took her to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed her death.

Bappa added that Naja’atu’s parents, who reside in Abuja, accepted the situation and requested that her funeral prayer and burial be conducted according to Islamic rites.

Naja’atu has since been buried in accordance with Islamic traditions.

The leadership of the Students Union Government (SUG) at ATBU Bauchi, along with other student unions, clubs, and societies, have issued various condolence messages to her parents and the school authorities, describing the incident as “unfortunate.”
