400,000 Nigerians apply for 50,000 Police jobs as PSC extends deadline
No fewer than 400,000 Nigerians have so far applied for the recruitment of 50,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), according to the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The commission has extended the application deadline by two weeks, moving the closing date from January 25 to February 8, 2026.
Confirming the development on Monday, PSC spokesman, Mr. Torty Njoku, said the decision followed an assessment of applications submitted since the recruitment portal was opened on December 15, 2025.
He explained that the review showed significant imbalance in the number of applicants across the states of the federation.
“While states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna have recorded very high numbers of applicants, states like Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra are lagging significantly,” Njoku said.
According to him, the extension was approved to promote fair and equitable representation of all states in the ongoing recruitment exercise.
“The commission and the Nigeria Police Force want to give eligible Nigerians from states with low application figures the opportunity to participate fully in the process,” he added.
Njoku encouraged qualified applicants, particularly those from underrepresented states, to utilise the extended period to submit their applications through the official recruitment portal.
He further assured Nigerians that the recruitment exercise would be conducted transparently and strictly on merit, in line with established rules and procedures.
