In Kaurar Wanke village, Shagari Local Government Area, Sokoto State, a family of five tragically died on Sunday after consuming soup mistakenly prepared with fertilizer instead of Monosodium Glutamate (Farin Maggi).
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, resulted in the deaths of three family members on Friday and the remaining two on Sunday at Sokoto Specialist Hospital.
State Health Commissioner Hajiya Asabe Balarabe confirmed that despite urgent efforts by her team, the fertilizer had severely damaged the victims’ organs.
Two other family members are still being treated at the hospital. Balarabe urged the public to keep chemicals away from food to prevent such tragedies.
Muhammad Abdullahi, a relative of the victims, expressed gratitude for the commissioner’s prompt response and support.
Dr. Attahiru Sokoto, Chief Medical Director of Sokoto Specialist Hospital, described the incident as deeply unfortunate.
