529 Foreign-trained doctors fail Nigerian medical exam

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) made a significant announcement regarding the results of the assessment examination for foreign-trained medical and dental graduates. According to the report obtained from the MDCN, a staggering total of 529 foreign-trained doctors failed the examination.

The assessment examination took place over two consecutive days, starting from the 12th of July and concluding on the 13th of July 2023. The venue for this critical examination was the prestigious University College Hospital, located in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In total, 704 foreign-trained medical graduates and 30 dental graduates participated in the rigorous examination process. However, the outcome was not as promising as expected, as only 189 medical graduates and 16 dental graduates managed to pass the assessment.

The statistics revealed a clear contrast, with 515 medical graduates and 14 dental graduates falling short of the required standards set by the MDCN. This discrepancy has raised concerns within the medical community and sparked discussions about the evaluation process for foreign-trained doctors in Nigeria.

The MDCN, as the regulatory body for medical and dental practice in the country, plays a vital role in ensuring that healthcare professionals meet the necessary qualifications and competencies to provide safe and effective services to the public. The results of this examination will undoubtedly prompt further scrutiny and discussions to address the challenges faced by foreign-trained doctors seeking to practice in Nigeria.
