Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State will clock 60yrs tomorrow, Friday 23rd April 2021. The governor in a month’s time will clock two years in office on his second term mandate, it is expected that there will be funfair to celebrate his diamond jubilee by his political associates, appointees in his cabinet, family, friends and well-wishers, which is common the world over, especially 60th birthday which is significant to the life of every individual.
However, the governor through his Chief Press secretary, Terver Akase, said that the Governor will not be celebrating his 60th birthday with funfair. Akase made the Governor’s position known on his official Facebook handle which according to him, Governor Ortom , rather than celebrate his birthday amidst funfair will share a moment with widows and orphans at various orphanages in the state on the 23rd April, 2021 which is his birthday, on the 24th of April, the governor will also visit various internally displaced people’s camps in Benue state housing people displaced by activities of armed Fulani Militia in Benue state.
According Mr. Akase, Governor Ortom will Roundup his birthday celebration with a thanksgivings service on Sunday 25th April, to appreciate God Almighty for sparing his live and the grace he has enjoyed over the years.
Akase said : “Governor Samuel Ortom will be 60 tomorrow 23rd April, 2021. Traditionally, drums would have been rolled out to celebrate the diamond age. But Governor Ortom has chosen to make it low key.
“He (the governor) will meet with widows, orphans and people with disabilities tomorrow. On Saturday, the Governor will visit IDP camps, and on Sunday go to church to thank God.”
Clearthougtnews gathered that, other reasons that made the Ortom to put on hold funfair to mark his birthday are not unconnected to the renewed herdsmen attacks on Benue farmers in Makurdi, Gwer West, Guma, Agatu and Kwande local government areas who are currently under siege.
