Eight persons including students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, in Ondo state reportedly lost their lives on Saturday, after a Dangote truck loose control and ran into the students and other pedestrians.
It was gathered that 10 persons also sustained various degrees of injuries in the incident which occurred about 6 pm.
According to eyewitness report ”the trailer carrying cement lost control due to brake failure and rammed into business centres and shops near the school gate.
The students who just resumes were said to be at the different business centres to make photocopies and type their assignments ahead of their examination, when the ugly incident happened.
” lt crushed all the students who were busy at the business centres, the passersby and other shop owners few metres away from the main gate of the university.
One of the students, Bolatito Arogundo, who spoke with Vanguard, said the students were already preparing for their coming examination.
She asked that speed breaker be installed on the road to slow down the speed of the motorists and caution them against recklessness driving while also urging truck drivers to always ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before putting them on the road.
The police spokesman, Tee Leo lkoro, who confirmed the incident, said that eight dead bodies have so far recovered from the accident while evacuations were still ongoing.
The Corpse were taken to the mortuary of the General hospital.
The ten persons who sustained injuries have since been rushed to a nearby medical center for treatment.
