800 inmates escape from Kakwangura prison

Over 800 inmates have escaped from a prison in eastern DR Congo after gunmen staged a jailbreak in which two policemen were killed and an assailant dead.

Available report indicates the armed men attacked Kakwangura central prison in the town of Butembo overnight on Tuesday 8 August 2022.

The suspected terrorist that carried out the operation were the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) — a bloody militia that the Islamic State group says is its regional affiliate.
