Super Eagles star, Daniel Akpeyi has revealed that he is keeping a strong mentality and keeping fit while waiting for the right offer since leaving Kazier Chief this summer.

The goalkeeper ran out his contract with South African topflight club Kazier Chief this July, and he is awaiting a suitable offer before choosing his next club.

Akpeyi who will be turning 36 next month played 69 times for Kazier Chief since transferring from Chippa United in 2019 but has not played any official game for the 13 times South African champions since December 2021.

In an interview with Kick Off, Akpeyi revealed how he has been keeping fit both physically and mentally. He also revealed how strange this new journey his to him.

“Being without a club is new for me since 2005 so must just be mentally strong. I give glory to God that he has been granting me strength to be able to go through this period,” Akpeyi revealed to Kick Off.

“In the past, I wouldn’t be in all of the pre-season training because of national team commitments but the situation is different now since I’m not with a club.

“I just have to be mentally strong through this phase and understand that it is all part of the game.

“I believe that the right team will come,” says Akpeyi who has been able to win 19 caps for The Super Eagles.

The Olympic Bronze medalist has been linked with Sekhukhune United, AmaZulu, and Orlando Pirates.

“For now, I’m just preparing myself by going through my own pre-season while waiting for the right time to sign.

“In preparing myself I’m keeping fit by training with one of the top goalkeeper trainers.

“It is a matter of accepting the right offer from what I have available from both South Africa and outside,” he says.

Daniel Akpeyi featured 18 times for the Super Eagles and was part of the team that won the Bronze medal at Rio 2016 Olympics and the Bronze at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
