BREAKING: WAEC releases 2023 SSCE result – How to check
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
According to Patrick Areghan, the Head of Nigeria’s Office (HNO) of WAEC, out of a total of 1,613,733 candidates who took the examination, the results of 262,803 candidates are being withheld due to reported cases of examination malpractice.
Despite this issue, there was a notable improvement in the overall pass rate. A total of 1,361,608 candidates, which accounts for 84.38 per cent of the total, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language or Mathematics.
Furthermore, 1,287,920 candidates, representing 79.81 per cent of the total candidates, achieved credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including both English Language and Mathematics.
This year’s WASSCE results show both achievements and challenges, with a significant number of candidates performing well and obtaining credit in multiple subjects. However, the cases of examination malpractice leading to withheld results highlight the need for continued efforts to maintain the integrity of the examination process. WAEC and relevant authorities will likely investigate and take appropriate actions regarding the reported malpractice cases.
