Kano on fire over ECOWAS’ plan to invade Niger

Kano State has been engulfed by protests as citizens voice their opposition to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) proposed deployment of a standby military force in Niger.

The demonstrators, taking to the streets on a Saturday, expressed their strong discontent regarding the potential military intervention in the Niger Republic. Marching in unity, they resounded chants such as “Nigeriens are our kin; they are family too.”

Their message was clear: a fervent plea for peace and a denouncement of any aggression towards Niger. The protesters fervently declared that a military confrontation with Niger would be an unjust act orchestrated by external powers.

The scene was filled with the sight of Nigerian flags intertwined with the nation’s own, and placards bearing anti-war slogans were held high as the crowd echoed their sentiments against conflict.

Meanwhile, the Niger junta, responding to the situation, formally severed diplomatic ties with Nigeria. In response, Nigeria made the decision to halt the supply of electricity to its neighboring country.
