No fewer than 22 military personnel who lost their lives in a fierce combat operation in Niger State have been buried in Abuja.

The fallen heroes were laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery in the heart of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Friday.

Recall that the Defence Headquarters had on August 14 announced the devastating news of the demise of 36 brave officers who fell in the line of duty.

The ill-fated officers were aboard a helicopter that was tragically downed by insurgents in the Zungeru region of Niger State, marking a tragic turn in the ongoing efforts to secure the region.

The fallen troops had been deployed to Kundu village, located in the Wushishi Local Government Area, following a surge in banditry activities that had plunged the locality into fear and insecurity.

Several of the officers had already been laid to rest by their grieving families, leaving a solemn count of 22 yet to receive their final farewell, a poignant moment that unfolded on Friday.
