U.S. President Joe Biden appoints two Nigerians as Special Advisers
President Joe Biden of the United States has appointed two professionals of Nigerian descent, Osagie Imasogie and Chineye Ogwumike, as special advisers. They are part of the 12-member President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement.
Osagie Imasogie is the Chairman of the Investment Bank and SEC/FINRA registered Broker-Dealer, Quoin Capital and Quoin Advisors. He has a vast background in pharmaceutical companies, law, entrepreneurship, and investments, holding positions in major corporations and serving on the boards of financial institutions.
Chineye “Chiney” Ogwumike is a 2-time WNBA All-Star for the Los Angeles Sparks and a full-time multi-platform ESPN host and NBA analyst. Born in Cypress, Texas, Chiney is a first-generation Nigerian-American and a graduate from Stanford University, excelling in both academics and professional basketball.
The President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement aims to enhance dialogue between U.S. officials and the African Diaspora, reinforcing cultural, social, political, and economic ties between the U.S. and Africa, promoting trade, investment, and educational exchanges.
The council members comprise distinguished individuals from various sectors, including government, sports, creative industries, business, academia, social work, and faith-based activities. They are set to serve for the 2023-2025 term.
