How Chris Ogunbanjo died, Tinubu reacts

President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Ogunbanjo family and the entire Ijebu-Ode community following the passing of the esteemed patriarch, elder statesman, and celebrated corporate icon, Dr. Christopher Oladipo Ogunbanjo. The President recognized Ogunbanjo’s significant contributions as one of Nigeria’s most renowned corporate lawyers. Dr. Ogunbanjo passed away at the age of 99, as confirmed by his son, Senate Tokunboh Ogunbanjo.

In an official statement released by Senator Ogunbanjo, it read: “With gratitude to God Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of our great Father who lived for the children, the family, the Church, the community, and the entire Nation – Chief C. O. Ogunbanjo, OFR, (The Great Baba Ijo of the Church of the Epiphany, Erunwon) as he passed into glory yesterday night, 7th October, 2023.”

President Tinubu, through his Media Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, shared in the mourning with family members, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers of the late legal luminary. Dr. Ogunbanjo’s multifaceted roles as an industrialist, corporate lawyer, and philanthropist were acknowledged, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s legal and business communities.

Tinubu paid tribute to Pa Ogunbanjo for his unwavering dedication to various causes, including grassroots community development and advocacy for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians. Dr. Christopher Oladipo Ogunbanjo, born on December 12th, 1923, in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria, was a prominent corporate lawyer, businessman, and philanthropist. He hailed from the distinguished Ogunbanjo family in Erunwon-Ijebu. He commenced his legal practice in 1950, partnering in the law firm Samuel, Chris & Michael, later founding Chris Ogunbanjo & Co, a pivotal platform for many legal luminaries in Nigeria. His extensive contributions to law and corporate governance have left a lasting legacy in the nation.
