Tinubu CSU certificate controversy: I’m ashamed – Agbakoba

Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, the former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), voiced his dismay at the public discourse surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s educational records from Chicago State University (CSU). He expressed concern over the presence of lawyers discussing the matter on national television and urged for a more measured approach.

In a social media post, Agbakoba emphasized that the extensive debate and differing opinions regarding Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the CSU records were getting out of control. He cautioned against what he termed as “armchair lawyers” contributing to the escalation of tensions in Nigeria.

Agbakoba appealed for restraint and advocated for keeping personal opinions and views to oneself while awaiting a decision from the Supreme Court. He called for an end to the heated public debates and urged the President of the Nigerian Bar Association to intervene in preventing lawyers from turning the media into a court of law.

The senior lawyer stressed the importance of allowing the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make a judicial pronouncement, which would be binding for all parties involved, in an effort to bring an end to the ongoing public discourse on this matter.
