Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has announced that the Federal Government plans to officially launch the conditional cash transfer policy for 15 million households in Nigeria on October 17, 2023. This initiative comes after the Federal Government halted petroleum subsidies in previous months.

Edu emphasized that the ministry is collaborating with stakeholders nationwide to establish a credible register of beneficiaries.

The verification process is currently ongoing to ensure the accuracy of the register. Efforts are being made to identify genuine individuals within the under $1.95 a day income range who qualify for the conditional cash transfer.

The verification exercise includes cross-referencing data with the Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identity Number (NIM), and other identification measures to authenticate the beneficiaries.

Additionally, biometric data, household head information, and household pictures are being captured for validation purposes. Each household is assigned a unique number for easy verification against the register.
