The Benue State House of Assembly on Friday October 30th, 2018 organized a valedictory session in honour of three of their deceased former colleagues, late Hon. Joseph Omaba Ogbo, one-time deputy Speaker of the House, late Hon. Mrs Maria Amedu Aikulola and Hon. Odeh Alphonsus Obande.

The session was attended by serving and former members of the House as well as State Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu, friends and relations of the deceased former members.

Even as serving and former members of the House recalled in glowing terms the contributions of the deceased, one sour point that stuck out is the poor living condition of most of the former legislators and the need for better welfare package for former legislators.

Engr Abounu, who also represented Governor Samuel Ortom at the event, said the Ortom administration believes in the sacrosanctity and eminence of the legislature, hence its support for the autonomy of the legislature. He stated that the harmonious relationship between the executive and the legislature flows from the respect the Ortom administration has for the legislature and assured that the government will give due recognition to former members of the House of Assembly.

While the remains of late Hon Omaba Ogbo shall be committed to earth Saturday, 1st December 2018, that of Hon. Maria Aikulola and Hon. Alphonsus Ode shall be interred two weeks from now.
