Japan Airlines plane catches fire in Tokyo
A Japan Airlines aircraft caught fire at Tokyo’s Haneda airport on Tuesday, potentially due to a collision with a Coast Guard plane.
According to Reuters, the airline confirmed the safe evacuation of all 379 passengers and crew.
Live footage on NHK displayed the plane in flames as it slid down the runway, despite rescue crews’ efforts to control the fire.
The Coast Guard is investigating the potential collision with the passenger jet. NHK reported that five out of six crew members of the Coast Guard aircraft are unaccounted for, while one managed to escape.
The Japan Airlines spokesperson mentioned that the aircraft had departed from Shin-Chitose airport on the northern island of Hokkaido.
In response to the incident, Haneda airport has closed all runways.
