Profile of Reverend Thomas Ifeanyichukwu Obiatuegwu, Auxiliary Bishop of Orlu
The Reverend Thomas Ifeanyichukwu Obiatuegwu, born on January 1, 1966, in Uli, Anambra State, has been appointed as the Auxiliary Bishop of Orlu by the Holy Father.
Educational Background:
- Attended the minor seminary in Umuowa.
- Studied at the Saint Joseph Major Seminary in Ikot-Ekpene (1987-1991).
- Continued studies at the Bigard Memorial Seminary in Enugu (1991-1995).
- Obtained a master’s degree in philosophy from the Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain (2001-2003).
- Achieved a master’s degree in public management and policy from Indiana University, USA (2005-2008).
Ordination and Clerical Service:
- Ordained as a priest on August 26, 1995, for the clergy of the diocese of Orlu.
- Served as chaplain of the hospital of Amaigbo (1995-1997).
- Held the position of parish priest of Saint Theresa in Amauju, Isunjaba (1997-2001).
- Worked as parish vicar of Saint Patrick in Kokoma, Indiana, USA (2004-2010).
- Served as chaplain of the USA Army (2010-2017).
- Acted as parish priest of Holy Rosary in Orlu (2017-2018).
- Served as parish priest of Saint Michael in Urualla (2018-2023).
- Held the role of dean of the Saint Michael pastoral zone (2018-2023).
- Since 2023, he has been the parish priest of Saint Joseph in Umuna, Orlu.
The Holy Father has entrusted Reverend Thomas Ifeanyichukwu Obiatuegwu with the responsibility of serving as the auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Orlu, assigning him the titular see of Horrea Cœlia.
