BREAKING: NLC strike suspension: National grid finally restored

The national power grid is now operational again, following the suspension of the strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.

Adebiyi Adeyeye, President of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), confirmed the restoration of the grid, noting that electricity workers have returned to their duties.

“The strike has been suspended, which means the grid has come back to normal. It is on already,” Adeyeye told PUNCH Online in an interview on Tuesday.

The strike, which began on Monday, was called to protest the Federal Government’s decision not to increase the minimum wage beyond N60,000 and to revert the Band A electricity tariff to N65 per kilowatt-hour from the current N206/KWh.

While the grid is back online, negotiations between organized labor and the government are set to resume, with labor leaders pushing for a higher minimum wage and reduced electricity tariffs.

“Our correspondent observed that the grid has yet to be fully restored at the time of filing this report,” the article noted.

Adeyeye debunked allegations that union leaders attacked workers at the Transmission Company of Nigeria, saying the union only withdrew its members in compliance with the directive of the organized labor.

“We only withdrew our members, we did not attack anybody,” Adeyeye said.
