EFCC blows hot as group plans nationwide protest
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a warning against any planned protests targeting the commission.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, disclosed that a “shadowy group” is organizing a protest against the Commission. This group has been campaigning on social media, recruiting impressionable young Nigerians, including students, to oppose the EFCC.
The Commission stated that the protest aims to disrupt its enforcement of cybercrime laws.
“While the Commission respects the right to protest, it is concerned about evidence suggesting that corrupt individuals under investigation or prosecution by the EFCC are using this protest as a cover to incite a national uprising, potentially endangering the peace and security of our nation.
“As a responsible law enforcement agency, the EFCC will not tolerate any breakdown of law and order, especially near its offices across Nigeria.
“In collaboration with other security agencies, the EFCC is taking necessary measures to address any threats to Nigeria’s peace and security,” the statement concluded.
