President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers.

IDOMA VOICE reports that Tinubu announced the new wage during a meeting with leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday in Abuja.

In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, it was revealed that the minimum wage will be reviewed every three years.

The statement read: “President approves N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers with a promise to review the national minimum wage law every three years. President Tinubu also promised to find ways to assist the private sector and sub-nationals in paying the minimum wage.”

President Tinubu made these announcements during the meeting with TUC and NLC leaders, marking their second meeting in seven days. The labour leaders praised President Tinubu for his considerate gesture, and the President also pledged to use his discretionary powers to address the demands of university unions seeking payment for four months of unpaid salaries.
