Three people were killed and eight others injured in a violent clash between farmers and herders in Kodomun, a community in Demsa Local Government Area, Adamawa State.

The conflict, which has a history in the region, reportedly began after the alleged killing of a local youth by suspected herders.

The violence quickly spread to neighboring villages including Kudiri, Sabonlayi, Kwayine, and Gorogbakai.

By Thursday evening, the situation had been brought under control.

SP Suleiman Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, confirmed that a combined security team had restored order in the affected areas.

A meeting was convened at the palace of the Hama Batta, Homun Alhamdu Gladstone Teneke, the paramount traditional leader of Demsa.

During the meeting, Demsa Local Government Council Chairman Akham Jalo called for calm and criticized both farmers and herders for failing to report issues accurately.

He urged farmers to report crop damage to authorities for compensation and advised herders to avoid grazing near farmlands.

Hama Batta, Homun Alhamdu Gladstone Teneke, reiterated the state government’s directive that herders must withdraw their cattle during the cropping and rainy seasons, with the restriction remaining in place until after the harvest in February.

The meeting also directed leaders of the conflicting parties to identify and submit the names of those responsible for the recent violence for prosecution.
