Why I dumped PDP for APC – James Ibori’s daughter, Eriethake Suenu

Eriethake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori and representative of Ethiope Federal Constituency, Delta State, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmaker, who was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), announced her resignation in a letter dated December 5, 2024. Addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Area, the letter detailed her reasons for leaving the party.

“Please, by this notice, I formally resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect. I surrender my attached Peoples Democratic Party membership card with membership number 0777144 in furtherance of my complete disassociation and disengagement from the Peoples Democratic Party.

“My resignation was foisted on me by my complete exclusion by the state chapter of the party and by the lingering leadership crisis which has divided the party into implacable camps,” the letter stated.

Reports indicate that Ibori-Suenu delayed her announcement until the return of Delta State PDP Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie from medical leave. Sobotie had confirmed his resumption of duties in a letter dated December 2, 2024, addressed to State Deputy Chairman Francis Obigbor and Delta Central APC Chairman Chief Paulinus Akpeki.

The PDP’s internal divisions, including the emergence of two factional acting state chairmen, have been pointed to as a significant factor in her defection to the APC.
