How I convinced Wizkid to embrace Afrobeats – Eldee
Veteran Nigerian singer Eldee The Don has shared his influence on Grammy-winning artist Wizkid’s journey into Afrobeats.
Speaking on the Adesope Live show, Eldee revealed that he persuaded Wizkid to embrace music with Nigerian influences during the early stages of his career. At the time, Wizkid, who was signed to EME Records by Banky W, was more inclined toward Reggae and Dancehall.
“Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky W signed him before he dropped his first single, but I told him he has to find a middle ground and do something Nigerian with a lot of flavors in it,” Eldee recounted.
Following this advice, Wizkid transitioned to creating Afropop songs, including his hit track Don’t Dull, which became a significant breakthrough in his career.
