Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, on Tuesday, led a high-powered delegation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, at the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja, demanding urgent military action to curb the escalating herdsmen attacks in Benue State.
The delegation comprised the Member of the House of Representatives representing Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. David Ogewu, and the Founder of the G12 Foundation, Hon. Joseph Oche.
The lawmakers said the purpose of the visit was to appreciate the COAS for his demonstrated concern and commitment to ending insecurity in Benue, particularly in the Benue South Senatorial District, which has been plagued by sustained and deadly attacks.
During the meeting, Senator Moro and his team appealed for the deployment of additional troops to vulnerable communities and called for the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in one of the high-risk areas to bolster security operations.
In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff expressed gratitude to the delegation for the visit, describing it as a morale booster that would further energize the Army’s commitment to restoring peace in the affected areas.
He assured the lawmakers that their concerns would be carefully considered, though he acknowledged the operational constraints currently facing the military.
