The Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday brought nine suspects before the Federal High Court, Abuja, over their alleged involvement in the recent massacre in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, and violent incidents in Plateau State.

The accused persons, arraigned before Justice Emeka Nwite, are facing six different counts bordering on terrorism, unlawful possession of arms, criminal conspiracy, and aiding terrorist activities.

DSS prosecuting counsel, Calistus Eze, informed the court that the charges were filed on August 28. In one of the cases, with suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/449/2025, two men identified as Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullahi, both from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, were alleged to have worked with others still on the run to execute the June 13 coordinated assaults on Abinsi and Yelwata communities.

The violent attacks reportedly claimed several lives, left many wounded, and displaced hundreds across Benue and Plateau States.

According to the DSS, the crimes contravene provisions of Section 12 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.

All nine suspects entered a plea of not guilty. Justice Nwite subsequently ordered their remand in DSS custody while granting them access to legal representation.

For the cases involving Ashuwa, Alede, and Halima Umar, the judge adjourned hearing to October 2. The matters concerning Manjo and Tali, as well as Antu and Oloche, were slated for October 17.

In a separate development, the DSS also filed fresh five-count charges against an alleged arms dealer, Huzaifa Ahamad Haruna, also known as Huzaifa Dogo.

He was reportedly apprehended with seven M16 assault rifles in his possession.
