The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed optimism that the reported plan by Governor Agbu Kefas to defect to the party will further strengthen its support base across the state.
The state chairman of the party, Barrister Tukur Ibrahim El-Sudi, stated this on Friday while addressing journalists in Jalingo.
El-Sudi described the move as a welcome development, saying it would be unwise for the APC to shut its doors to new members willing to join the party.
According to him, the APC constitution guarantees equal rights and opportunities for both old and new members, stressing that the party’s growth depends on its ability to attract people from other political platforms.
“Nobody will be short-changed by the coming of Governor Kefas or anyone else into the APC. There will always be agreements and give-and-take, but what matters most is popularity among the people and within the party, which determines electoral success,” he said.
The APC chairman urged members not to be apprehensive about competition from state or national lawmakers planning to join the party, assuring that the national leadership of the APC will provide a level playing field for all.
El-Sudi added that with only a few months left in the current executive’s tenure, members should focus on strengthening the party’s grassroots structure and unity ahead of future elections.
