The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, describing it as a politically motivated campaign driven by opposition figures seeking relevance.
In a statement on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said the demonstration had nothing to do with justice, calling it “a reckless display of frustration and desperation.”
Oladejo maintained that the case involving the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is already before the courts, stressing that the judiciary is capable of delivering justice without public agitation or mob pressure.
He accused opposition politicians of backing the protest for selfish reasons, alleging that their actions show disregard for the insecurity and hardship faced by residents in the South East.
“The so-called protest is not about justice; it is about political frustration — a desperate attempt by those rejected at the polls to exploit national issues for cheap relevance,” Oladejo said.
He urged security agencies to remain alert and called on Nigerians, particularly leaders from the South East, to resist what he described as attempts to destabilise the country.
Oladejo also commended President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying it is focused on rebuilding the economy, restoring investor confidence, and fostering unity.
According to him, national progress can only be achieved through cooperation and peace, not “bitter politics and chaos.”
